Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about using ElevatePay. Can't find an answer? Our team is one message away.
Getting started
What is ElevatePay?
ElevatePay is an online account that holds naira, dollars and rand side by side. You can convert between them, fund the account by bank transfer or crypto, spend with a virtual card, send money to Nigerian bank accounts, and pay Nigerian bills.
Do I need to download an app?
No. ElevatePay runs in any browser on your phone, tablet or computer. You can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app, with its own icon and no address bar. Native iOS and Android apps are on the way.
Which countries can open an account?
Nigeria and South Africa. Your country decides which verification documents apply, which deposit options you get and which card currencies are available — so choose carefully at signup, as it cannot be changed later.
Is ElevatePay a bank?
No. ElevatePay is a financial technology company. We work with licensed partner institutions to hold funds and process payments.
Money & currencies
How do I add money?
Nigerian customers get a dedicated account number — transfer to it from any Nigerian bank and your naira balance is funded automatically. Everyone, in both countries, can fund by depositing crypto. Rand bank deposits are coming.
How does converting currencies work?
Choose the two currencies and an amount, and we quote you a rate. That rate is held for a short window, and the amount you are shown is exactly the amount you receive — the quote expires rather than silently changing.
What does it cost?
Currency conversion carries a spread, which is already reflected in the rate you are quoted before you confirm. Transfers and bill payments may carry a small fee, always shown before you approve. There are no hidden charges after the fact.
What are my limits?
Limits depend on your verification level and your country, and are shown in the app under Account. Verifying your identity raises them.
Crypto
Which cryptocurrencies can I deposit?
USDT and USDC (stablecoins), plus Bitcoin and Ethereum. All of them credit your dollar balance — from there you can convert to naira or rand whenever you choose.
How long does a crypto deposit take?
Stablecoins usually credit within minutes. Bitcoin and Ethereum have to wait for network confirmations first — around 30 minutes for Bitcoin and a few minutes for Ethereum. You can watch the confirmation count as it arrives.
Can I sell or withdraw crypto?
Not yet. Crypto deposits are one-way today: they fund your dollar balance, which you can then convert or spend. Selling and withdrawing back to a crypto wallet are not available.
What if I send the wrong coin or use the wrong network?
It cannot be recovered. Each deposit address works for one coin on one specific network, and we show that clearly before you send. Always check the network matches before confirming a transfer.
Verification
What do I need to verify my identity?
In Nigeria, your BVN raises you to the next tier and your NIN plus a proof of address completes full verification. In South Africa, your ID number and a FICA proof of address do the same.
How long does verification take?
Nigerian BVN and NIN checks are usually instant. South African ID submissions are reviewed by our team, normally within 24 to 48 hours — we email you as soon as your limits change.
Security
How is my account protected?
Your password is hashed with argon2id, a separate 6-digit PIN authorises every payment, and you can turn on two-factor authentication. Card details are never stored by us in readable form.
Will you tell me if something suspicious happens?
Yes, and you cannot switch those alerts off. Failed sign-in attempts, password and PIN changes, and card actions are always emailed to you — because those messages are how you find out if someone else is in your account.
What if I lose my device?
Your session is protected by your password, your PIN and two-factor authentication. Changing your password signs you out of every device immediately.
Will you ever ask for my PIN or password?
Never — not by phone, email or message. Anyone who asks is attempting fraud. Report it to us straight away.
